Derek Smidler CFI
Chief Flight Instructor
Derek began flying in Indiana at the age of 15 and after high school attended Indiana State University where he acquired his Private, Instrument, and Commercial certificates. He then continued his training and received his Flight Instructor rating in Madison, WI where he also helped build a Vans R-V 6 and logged over 150 hours of tailwheel time en route to his endorsement.
Mark Jacobs ATP, CFII, MEI, CFAI
Mark is a graduate of Drexel University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate and has been a flight instructor for more than 38 years. With over 4,500 hours as a pilot his flying experience includes instructing, charter, air taxi and business flying. He is currently an FAA FAAST Safety Representative, and serves with the Massachusetts Wing Civil Air Patrol, the Auxiliary of the USAF, where he holds the rank of Major and is the Massachusetts Wing Assistant Standards and Evaluation Officer.
Will Bradford CFI
Will Bradford a life long Massachusetts resident and has planned to be a career pilot since he was 6 years old. Will flying career began at 16. He joined the US Air Force and served as a crew chief on a C5 Galaxy. Will began flying in Plymouth and earned his Private, Instrument, Commercial CFI, CFII certificates and his multi-engine ratings. He enjoys teaching here at Pilgrim Aviation.
Yu Cheng CFII, ATP
Yu Cheng began flying while attending University of Central Missouri in 2009, graduating with a bachelor degree in Flight Operations Management. Then, upon moving to Dallas, TX Yu received his Flight Instructor Airplane and Instrument ratings. Yu worked with Part 141 University flight training programs, most recently at University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. Yu recently received his Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating with logged approximately 1,700 hours of flight time, over 700 hours of cross-country flying, 50 hours of actual instrument time and more than 1,200 hours of instruction given time. Yu is working towards his Master’s in Aviation Safety with Florida Institute of Technology.
Michael Yanez ATP, CFII, MEI
Mike enjoys sharing the fun of flying with all those ready to pursue the challenge. A dual rated ATP & CFII in both fixed and rotary wing aircraft, he draws upon a breadth of aviation experience to teach up and coming aviators the “how to” of the aviation world.
